Data centers continue to play a central role in public debate, particularly in Lombardy, which today represents Italy’s leading hub for the development of digital infrastructure.
In an interview published by Corriere della Sera Milano, Tareq Rajjal, Senior Vice President Operations at Data4, highlighted the strategic role of data centers in supporting economic growth, innovation, and national competitiveness, describing them as the”new digital highways” on which modern services and technologies depend.
The interview addresses some of the topics most frequently associated with the development of data centers, including energy consumption, water usage, sustainability, and local impact. According to Rajjal, these issues should be discussed on the basis of facts and objective analysis, while also recognizing the value that digital infrastructure creates for cloud adoption, artificial intelligence development, digital transformation, and investment attraction.
The interview also highlights how the growth of digital infrastructure is increasingly linked to the ability of territories to support innovation and meet the rising demand for digital services, emphasizing the need for a long-term vision capable of balancing economic development, sustainability, and competitiveness.
As IDA, we continue to promote an open, evidence-based discussion, contributing to the dissemination of accurate information about the sector and fostering constructive dialogue among institutions, citizens, and digital infrastructure stakeholders. The growing attention dedicated to data centers confirms their role as a strategic asset for the country’s digital future.
