Data Centers: the new frontline of conflict

In its investigative report “Data Centers, the Weapon of a New Conflict”, published on June 25, Zeta Luiss examines one of the most strategic sectors for Italy’s digital future. The article looks at the rapid growth of data centers across the country, their role in supporting artificial intelligence, the investments expected in the coming years, and the emerging debate surrounding new developments in local communities.

Among the experts interviewed is Luca Beltramino, President of the Italian Datacenter Association (IDA), who describes the industry as “one of the most strategic sectors for the country’s digital competitiveness.” Beltramino highlights the need for stronger long-term planning and a structured industrial vision to enable Italy to compete with Europe’s leading digital hubs.

In his interview, Beltramino also stresses the importance of the recent regulatory developments and the need to support the sector’s growth through open and transparent dialogue with local communities, ensuring that digital infrastructure development can proceed in a sustainable and widely understood way.
