On October 7, 2025, the Data Center Symposium organized by IDA – Italian Datacenter Association took place in Rome, marking one of the association’s most important events.
The symposium brought together institutions, companies and stakeholders in an open and practical dialogue on the challenges and opportunities facing Italy on its path toward digital sovereignty and sustainable growth.
Institutional opening and strategic vision
The event opened with Maria Soave, RAI journalist, who moderated the institutional welcome session. Sherif Rizkalla, President of IDA, presented an overview of the state of the data center industry, followed by an address from Adolfo Urso, Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, who attended the event in person. Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, also delivered remarks via video message.
Regulation, investment and opportunities
The first roundtable, “The rules of the future: Data Centers between regulation, investment and opportunities for Italy,” focused on the new regulatory framework that could transform Italy into a strategic hub for digital infrastructure. Key topics included the MASE Energy Decree, the MIMIT strategy and the unified bill currently under discussion in Parliament.
Speakers included Laura D’Aprile, Cesare Coppo, Giulia Pastorella, Maurizio Cabras, Mario Nobile, Alessandro Piva and Emma Creola.
Energy for growth
The second session addressed the energy challenge facing the sector, including grid saturation, sustainability and international competitiveness. The discussion highlighted the need to simplify processes and optimize costs in order to support strong and resilient infrastructure development.
Contributors included Fabrizio Penna, Amedeo Teti, Andrea Galliani, Mauro Caprabianca, Luca Squeri, Vinicio Peluffo and Nicola Di Giusto.
Human capital and training
The third and final roundtable focused on training the professionals of the future. Building an Italian talent pipeline is essential to reduce dependence on foreign expertise and ensure specialized skills for the sector.
Speakers included Federico Mollicone, Brando Benifei, Riccardo Corbucci, Sara Santagostino, Laura Di Raimondo and Maria Grazia Amore.
A strong signal for the sector
The Data Center Symposium confirmed how urgent and strategic it is to invest in skills, sustainable energy and regulatory simplification to make Italy a competitive digital hub.
