IDA and Rete Clima: a new urban forestry initiative takes root in Mezzocammino

IDA – Italian Datacenter Association took part in an important urban forestry initiative in the Mezzocammino district of Rome, carried out in collaboration with Rete Clima, a non-profit organization that has been active for over fifteen years in environmental sustainability and decarbonization projects.

The initiative, which took place in Rome’s Municipality IX, involved the planting of more than 200 new trees and shrubs, contributing to the creation of a new green lung in a rapidly expanding residential area. The project is part of Foresta Italia, the national forestry programme promoted by Rete Clima, whose aim is to improve environmental quality, mitigate the urban heat island effect, and enhance urban biodiversity.

A key element of the project was the active involvement of students from the third-grade classes of the Teresa Sarti Comprehensive Institute in Rome. The children took part in the planting activities, turning the event into an opportunity for environmental education and awareness-raising around sustainability and the relationship between technological development and environmental protection.

The area affected by the intervention—characterised by small hills of both natural and human origin—will gradually be enriched with new wooded areas, clearings and pedestrian paths, becoming a green space accessible to the local community and contributing to improved air quality and overall urban wellbeing.

The initiative also received extensive coverage from national and industry media, confirming the growing attention to environmental sustainability and the role of data centers in the responsible development of local communities:
