Milan, April 20, 2026 – IDA – Italian Datacenter Association, the Italian association representing data center builders and operators, announces the appointment of Luca Beltramino as the Association’s new President.
Beltramino succeeds Sherif Rizkalla, who led IDA through a crucial phase of consolidation, helping to position it as an authoritative voice within the national data center landscape.
A manager with over 25 years of international experience in digital infrastructure, telecommunications, and technological transformation, Luca Beltramino has held senior leadership positions at some of the world’s leading companies in the sector. These include roles as Managing Director of Equinix Italy and Global Senior Vice President at Uptime Institute, where he led global strategies related to edge computing. He also served as Managing Director of Supernap Italy, overseeing the launch of Supernap, the first Switch/Stack data center located outside the United States, as well as Managing Director of Interxion (now Digital Realty). More recently, as Chief Data Center Officer at Rai Way, he was responsible for the development of data center infrastructure on a national scale. A co-founder of IDA and former Vice President of the Association, Beltramino is also the driving force behind strategic initiatives such as Open Hub Med, the first neutral interconnection hub in the Mediterranean.
Commenting on his appointment, Luca Beltramino said: “Taking on the presidency of IDA is both a great honor and a significant responsibility at a pivotal moment for the evolution of the sector. I would like to thank the outgoing President, Sherif Rizkalla, and the former Board members for their work and for the trust placed in me. The path undertaken in recent years has enabled the Association to achieve important results, particularly in consolidating its institutional positioning, which today represents a solid foundation on which to build. The new Presidency stands fully in continuity with what has been achieved so far, with the aim of further strengthening IDA’s role.”
The President’s appointment was approved by IDA’s new Board of Directors, which will serve for the 2026–2028 term and is composed of representatives of leading industry operators, including Emmanuel Becker (Mediterra DataCenters), Luca Beltramino (EdgeConnex), Laura Castagna (Retelit), Emma Creola (Amazon Web Services), Michele Gallo (Rai Way), Emanuela Grandi (Equinix), Alberto Riva (Microsoft), Sherif Rizkalla (Vaultica Data Centers), and Lorenzo Rossi (Stack Infrastructure).
As part of the new governance structure, the Board also appointed the other Association officers: Laura Castagna as Vice President, Michele Gallo as Secretary General, and Sherif Rizkalla as Treasurer.
Founded with the aim of representing and developing the data center ecosystem in Italy, IDA brings together the country’s leading industry players, promoting shared standards, best practices, and system-wide initiatives. In recent years, the Association has played a key role in fostering dialogue between industry and institutions, contributing to the definition of strategic policies for the nation’s digitalization. Against a backdrop of growing demand for computing capacity, cloud services, and edge computing, IDA continues to stand as a central player in supporting innovation, competitiveness, and the resilience of Italy’s digital infrastructure.
