On Wednesday, March 11, Floriano Monteduro, Chair of the Energy Working Group of IDA – Italian Datacenter Association, took part in the Machiavelli Forum – Innovation, Data Centers, Economy and Digital Sovereignty Strategy, held at the Sala della Regina of the Chamber of Deputies in Rome.
Floriano Monteduro spoke on the panel “Italy as a Mediterranean hub: strategy, investments and data control,” focused on Italy’s strategic role in the development of digital infrastructure. His contribution explored in particular the energy-related issues that are central to the data center sector, ranging from efficiency and consumption to grid connections and the integration of renewable energy sources.
The Forum addressed the importance of data centers as critical infrastructure for Italian and European digital sovereignty, within a context marked by significant growth in investments related to cloud computing, artificial intelligence and new connectivity backbones. The event also examined opportunities to consolidate Italy’s role as a Mediterranean digital hub, alongside the challenges—especially energy-related—that must be addressed to ensure balanced, resilient and sustainable development.
