On Tuesday, March 10, Sherif Rizkalla, President of IDA – Italian Datacenter Association, took part in the event “Cloud Sovereignty: Italy’s Digital Future Put to the Test,” hosted at the Sala della Regina of Palazzo Montecitorio in Rome.
The initiative focused on digital sovereignty and on the strategic role of cloud infrastructure and data centers for the country. During the event, Sherif Rizkalla spoke on the roundtable “Digital sovereignty and institutions: what the country’s system needs,” contributing to the discussion on how secure, resilient digital infrastructures under national governance can support Italy’s competitiveness in today’s technological landscape.
The discussion brought together institutional representatives, members of the political sphere and industry stakeholders to explore the challenges and opportunities related to digital sovereignty. Key topics addressed during the event also included the evolution of Italian data centers, European initiatives for technological sovereignty—such as GAIA‑X and EUCS—and the increasingly critical role of cloud computing and artificial intelligence in ensuring security and supporting the development of the national digital ecosystem.
IDA’s participation in high-profile institutional events such as this confirms the Association’s central role in the national debate on digital infrastructure and on the evolving regulatory framework that will guide the country’s technological transformation.
