The Role of SINFI in Data Center Development: Luca Beltramino Speaks at MIMIT

On May 25, 2026, at the Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy in Rome, the presentation event of the SINFI – National Federated Infrastructure Information System took place, organized by Infratel Italia as part of the country’s broader digital transformation initiatives.

SINFI represents a digital register of infrastructure across the national territory, integrating data on electronic communication networks and physical assets, with the aim of improving territorial knowledge and supporting infrastructure planning.

During the first panel, focused on the role of SINFI within the energy and digital ecosystem, Luca Beltramino, President of IDA – Italian Data Center Association, shared the perspective of data center operators.

In his remarks, Beltramino highlighted several key challenges currently affecting the sector, including fragmentation of information, limited access to data on existing infrastructure, and the lack of coordination between energy networks, telecommunications, and civil works.

“For data center operators, one of the main challenges today is the fragmentation of information, the difficulty in accessing data on existing infrastructure, and the lack of coordination between energy networks, telecommunications, and civil works. SINFI can improve territorial knowledge, reduce information asymmetries, facilitate the planning of new sites, and enhance coordination with utilities and public administrations. The benefits will include reduced time and costs, greater visibility of existing infrastructure, and, as a result, improvements in authorization processes.”

According to Beltramino, the introduction of SINFI represents a strategic lever to make the entire data center development process more efficient, fostering better integration among stakeholders and simplifying both planning and permitting activities.

The initiative is part of a broader framework aimed at strengthening the interoperability of digital infrastructure and supporting the growth of the national technology ecosystem.

With SINFI, Italy takes a significant step toward a more integrated, transparent, and efficient infrastructure ecosystem, capable of supporting future connectivity demands and the continued expansion of the data center industry.
